Inspired by the recent BBC drama – War and Peace, Just You, the UK’s Single Traveller Specialist, has launched an eight-day escorted tour taking in the cities of Moscow and St Petersburg.

Departing on the 2nd September and 7th October 2016, the tour gives a fascinating insight into the opulent lives of the Russian aristocracy. Tolstoy’s epic novel War and Peace is brought to life as Just You customers discover the writer’s former home and visit filming locations of the BBC’s TV adaptation.

“It is wonderful to be able to offer our Just You customers a holiday to Russia on the back of the recent War and Peace TV series. We have ensured that our customers will see the best of both Moscow and St Petersburg including the Kremlin, Catherine’s Palace and the Faberge Museum,” said Alicia Welsman, Just You’s Senior Product Manager.

Just You’s holiday begins in Moscow with a tour of this incredible city which boasts remarkable architecture and a fascinating history, there is an included excursion to The Kremlin, a fortress which was a potent symbol of two mighty imperial cultures – medieval Muscovy and the Soviet Union.

The epic Battle of Borodino, one of the biggest clashes in military history, was immortalised in Tolstoy’s War and Peace. While in Moscow there is a visit to the Borodino Battle Museum Panorama, a painting which stands 15 metres high and stretches 115 feet, depicting the battle’s decisive moment.

The explorations continue to Khamovniki and a visit to the Leo Tolstoy Museum Estate, one of Russia’s oldest literary museums. The writer lived in this house from 1882 to 1901, penning many famous works here, there is also a visit to the salon where Rachmaninov and Rimsky-Korsakov played piano.

The Sapsan fast train links Moscow to St Petersburg where the holiday continues with a tour of the former capital of Russia, taking in the Peter and Paul Fortress, the historic core of the city, and the cathedral that is the resting place of all Russian Emperors and Empresses.

Other highlights of the stay in St Petersburg include a visit to the Russian Vodka Museum and the Faberge Museum, dedicated to the creator of the famed eggs. No visit to St Petersburg would be complete without a tour of the Catherine Palace, where scenes of the Tsar’s ball in War and Peace were filmed.
