I have been working with Just You for nine years. For the first six years I was office based, but my desire had always been to travel and I was in the right place to turn that dream into reality.
I began my Tour Manager career with two months in Italy, travelling between beautiful Lake Como in the north and charming Apulia in the south. The role was much more challenging than I had expected, but I gave it my all and continue to do so and it’s so worth it. I continue to lead tours in Italy, but I am fortunate to also lead tours in Australia, Thailand, India, Nepal, Jordan, Kenya, Morocco and France.
From making the career transition five years ago from Sales Manager to Tour Manager, life has never been so interesting and rewarding. I love everything about being a Tour Manger, from attention to detail in the planning, organisation stage, our magical journey, the challenges presented along the way, but most importantly the fun factor. I like to think of myself as a peoples person, infusing my passion and enthusiasm for travel while sharing knowledge and experience. To me each tour is an adventure of a lifetime, we explore, discover and experience together, ensuring everyone goes home having had that memorable and unforgettable vacation.
Kim Valencia is an 8th generation San Francisco native whose family dates back to the early 1800's. Her family was among 18 that colonized San Francisco, California when it still belonged to Mexico. She has worked in many Latin American countries and resided in Mexico for 14 years. Fluent in Spanish, her areas of expertise are Mexico, Central America and the Southwest of the USA. Gregarious and Social are among Kim's best attributes. Just You tours for Singles are a favourite of hers. With over 20 years of Touring experience, she brings a wealth of local knowledge, social commentary and humour to her tours.
I always dreamed of travelling the world when I was a lad growing up in Wensleydale and started my quest by emigrating to Australia in 1987 to work as an electrician. After a few years on cruise ships I eventually found my calling and for the last 14 years have been sharing my love of travel as a tour manager. Amongst my favourite destinations are South America; Australasia and Canada, where the scenery is superb.
I used to think that I loved my job as a Tour Manager because of the places I visited but I’ve come to realise that it was actually the people who I showed these amazing places to that made my job so rewarding.
I have been working as a Tour Manager with Just You since 2008. After completing a degree in History of Art and Architecture, I fell in love with Italy and as I have always enjoyed travel with groups, this was my ideal job. My tours are usually anywhere in Italy but I am happy to go anywhere in the world as I find new places particularly interesting.
I get lots of pleasure from making people's vacations as good as I can and I honestly believe with good organisation, planning and knowledge, a good Tour Manager can make a destination come alive for travellers. However, the most important part of the vacation is to have a good time and make some good friends.
I work frequently in Austria and Northern Italy due to its proximity to the Tirol and home, as well as all the neighbouring countries of Austria, Germany, Italy, Slovenia, Czech Republic, Switzerland, Liechtenstein and Slovakia.
I have always taken great pleasure in working with people and I am very proud to show them this beautiful part of the world that I now call home.
I love to wear the traditional dirndls, I ride a Harley Davidson in summer with my husband and ski all winter - my two favourite hobbies - and I still have a very strong Lancashire accent despite 30 years away!
Happily in my mid-60’s, my passion for travel shows no sign of waning, especially working as a Tour Manager for Just You. South African by birth, I have now lived both there and in the UK for 30+ years each and love both countries equally, although South Africa will always be home.
I was lucky to be a tourist guide there for nigh on 10 years and thrived on working with visitors to the country. Things that delight me are family, friends, entertaining, good books, cinema, golf, culture (of any country), driving (particularly anything fast or huge!), good wine, countryside, architecture and life in general.
‘Just You’ tours hold some of the fondest memories. Meeting a group of people and helping them get to know each other and form friendships, very rewarding! I take real pride in seeing people enjoy themselves and get the very most out of their tour Would. I change anything about my time with Just You so far? Only that I wish I had discovered this career earlier, as it is the most enjoyable time I have ever had at work.
I am so fortunate to have been able to see so many parts of the world through my work, and to have been part of so many people's ‘Once in a Lifetime’ vacations.
I have been privileged to escort tours all over the world, including Italy, Norway, China, Thailand and Australia. I have lead walking tours, cycle tours, coach tours, cruising, meditation retreats... wow, it’s been an amazing journey without a doubt! You could say I have a passion for travel and there is nothing better than sharing it with others.
I am inspired by the many different people that do our tours. Their enthusiasm, their curiosity, is what makes doing this job so worthwhile. Experienced travellers, occasional tourists, first timers, all add to the uniqueness of each tour, so each tour is different, each tour even more remarkable and challenging than the last!
