Itinerary

Make your own way to Toulouse, where we'll meet you at the airport and transfer you to your hotel. Get to know your travelling companions over a drink and dinner this evening.

Standing on the banks of the River Tarn, Albi is a delightful red-brick city steeped in history. Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, its origins date back to pre-Roman times and it is structured around two medieval fortresses.
As we explore on a walking tour we'll stop to appreciate the exterior of the enormous UNESCO-listed Gothic Cathedral of Sainte Cecile. Built as a fortress in 1287, it dominates the town, and is reportedly the largest brick building in the world.
The elaborate interior of this beautiful structure is equally impressive – its painted walls are exceptional examples of Christian art, and the frescoes on its ceiling comprise the largest and oldest Italian Renaissance painting in France.
Albi is also the birthplace of Toulouse Lautrec, and over 1,000 examples of his works are housed in the museum at the former Episcopal Berbie Palace here.

The nearby market town of Gaillac has the Tarn River running along its border and boasts the spectacular 10th century Abbey Saint-Michael.
The surrounding region is renowned for its excellent wines, and on our optional tour we'll pay a visit to a vineyard where we'll have the opportunity to enjoy a tasting.
The soaring limestone cliffs of the magnificent Gorges de l'Aveyron are breathtaking, we will also call here to take in this exceptional landscape.

Carcassonne is one of the most visually dramatic towns of the Languedoc region owing largely to the double-walled, turreted fortress – reportedly one of the largest in Europe – that overlooks it. UNESCO-listed, it is divided into the fortified Cité de Carcassonne and the lower city, the ville basse.
Take a stroll through the narrow streets, admire the views from the battlements and visit the beautiful Church of St Nazaire. Along the way we'll stop at the pretty town of Castres for a walk.

Many fortified towns – or ville bastides - were built when England and France fought for control of this corner of the country in medieval times. Our full-day excursion allows us to visit two excellent examples. Our first stop is Najac, a picturesque village known for its fascinating historic buildings and charming character. Its photogenic castle stands proudly on the peak of a hill and is a remarkable sight from the streets below.
We continue to Cordes. This quaint fortified town was built in 1222, and is now a very popular tourist spot with an array of delightful shops and welcoming bars.
This evening join your travelling companions for a farewell dinner.

At the end of your tour, you can join your fellow travellers on a transfer to the airport or choose to make your own arrangements.
