Itinerary

Make your own way to Havana, where we'll meet you at the airport and transfer you to your centrally located hotel. Colourful and colonial Obispo Street is right on your doorstep and this pedestrian-only shopping street is the place to find a bar or restaurant for some refreshments this evening. Why not head out with your travelling companions, who you'll meet over a welcome drink at the hotel.
As you explore you'll see traders selling all sorts of handicrafts, and hear live music pouring from every corner. Cuba has an extremely rich musical tradition with its roots in Spain and West Africa, and genres including rumba and salsa will have you swaying to their intoxicating rhythm.
Now you're in the mood, you could take in the views from the rooftop bar at the Hotel Ambos Mundos. This is where Ernest Hemingway stayed when he was writing 'For Whom the Bell Tolls'. Or maybe head to the Floridita, where the American novelist drank daiquiris. Try this rum-infused cocktail yourself and get even more in the Cuban spirit!

You'll discover more about the African influence found all over this vibrant Caribbean island on our morning tour. Firstly, we'll head to Old Havana, the historic heart of Cuba's capital, which is the largest colonial centre in all Latin America. We'll concentrate on its four main plazas, which are lined with impressive monuments and Baroque churches, handsome mansions and fascinating museums. We'll head inside one – the Casa de Africa – to gain an insight into Afro-Cuban culture. On display we'll see exhibits from wood carvings and weapons to textiles and musical instruments.
Our sightseeing continues at the Callejon de Hamel, a colourful narrow alley, where we'll see vivid street art by Salvador González – a mix of surrealism, cubism and abstract art created using everyday objects.
We'll end our tour as we enjoy lunch in a restaurant, then we'll head back to our hotel for an afternoon at leisure.

We set our sights on Trinidad today, a well-preserved colonial town, where our accommodation will be in a Casa Particular. This is a homestay, so you'll be spending the night with a Cuban family, who will make you feel right at home. You'll have your own private room, but with your landlord and their family on site, it's a great idea to learn a little Spanish before your holiday, so that you can chat with your hosts and really get to understand the Cuban way of life. A simple “Hola! Como estas?” will go a long way!  This kind of private bed-and-breakfast accommodation is also a great way to support the local economy.
You can get to grips with another Cuban tradition if you join this evening's optional excursion. We'll take you to a local venue where you can learn how to sway to the rhythm of salsa or hone your skills further with a Cuban dance expert.

Enjoy breakfast in your Casa Particular and bid your host farewell. You'll then gather with your fellow travellers and head off on a short walking tour of Trinidad's picturesque cobblestone streets, which are lined by pastel-shaded houses.
We're off on a wonderful journey by road to Cayo Santa Maria, an island in the Jardines del Rey archipelago, linked to the mainland by a scenic road. We'll cross from one side of Cuba to the other, and as we make our way to our resort we can take in spectacular views, with the ocean on both sides of us.
Another great sight is your all-inclusive hotel, the Melia Cayo Santa Maria, which is set in a tropical paradise of swaying palms, beautiful gardens and snow-white sands. On arrival, settle into your room then explore your surroundings or just grab a book and find a spot around one of the pools or on the beach.

Today is free for you to enjoy the wonderful facilities at your luxury hotel. Start with breakfast in the buffet restaurant, then maybe spend the rest of the day swimming or soaking up the sun. You've a choice of pools at the hotel, and the soft sands of the beach are right on your doorstep. Head back to the hotel for lunch and dinner with your travelling companions, or perhaps meet up for a refreshing drink – all meals and drinks are included during your stay.

You've another free day today. Your hotel's beach is 10km long and lapped by calm turquoise waters, so you can easily while away the day strolling, swimming, relaxing and reading. If you're feeling energetic, you could head to the fitness centre, or maybe you'll choose to treat yourself to a pampering spa treatment.

Enjoy breakfast at the hotel before we get together and drive back to Havana, taking in views of local life as we go.

At the end of your tour, you can join your fellow travellers on a transfer to the airport or choose to make your own arrangements.
