Itinerary

Make your own way to Crete where we'll transfer you to your hotel. You'll meet your travelling companions over a drink and dinner this evening.

Walk 3Km/2 miles – 1 hour

Your holiday gets off to a relaxed start with an easy walk which will introduce you to Crete's beautiful and rugged countryside. We'll explore over the Almyros Gorge, a natural oasis nestled between the hills of Keri and Kastrokefala, which offers panoramic views of Crete's capital, Heraklion.
After our walk we'll head back to the hotel for an afternoon at leisure. There's plenty to keep you occupied here, from a lovely swimming pool to a collection of craft workshops and a small museum.

Walk 7Km/4.3 miles – 2 hours

We'll step up the pace a little today with a two-hour walk in the Nida Plateau, located at an altitude of 1,400 metres. We'll reach the area via Crete's highest peak, Mount Ida, and your Local Guide will highlight the wildflowers found here. They'll also tell you about the small stone buildings you will see. Called mitata, they are used by shepherds seeking shelter from the elements and also as a place in which to make Cretan cheese.
We'll also visit the village of Anogia, which was razed to the ground during the Second World War and subsequently rebuilt.

You can choose to spend a restful day at your hotel but if you would like to explore further, you could join our optional excursion to Spinalonga. Due to its strategic position, this island was fortified and used for a variety of purposes over time, serving as a leper colony until 1957.

Walk 6Km/4 mi - 2 hrs

Today's included excursion takes us south, where our walk will start from the small village of Pitsidia. We'll take in lovely views of Komos beach, a large, unspoilt stretch of sand where sea turtles lay their eggs during the summer months.
Next we head to the seaside village of Matala, which became famous in the 1960s when it was connected with the hippie movement. A colony was set up here in the caves next to the beach.
Back at the hotel this evening, we're going to get together to enjoy a Cretan folklore show.

You can indulge in some 'me' time today if you choose a day of leisure. However, we also offer a fascinating optional trip, which begins as you explore the magnificent Minoan Palace ruins of Knossos, the seat of the legendary King Minos.
After a tour with a knowledgeable Local Guide, we'll move on to Heraklion. We'll take a stroll around the historic centre of Crete's capital, and there's free time for lunch if you wish.

Walk 6Km/4 miles – 2 hours

We're going to start our day with a drive through picturesque villages to the Lassithi Plateau, which is famous for its windmills. Our walk starts from the village of Psyhro and takes us on a trail through farmland to Tzermiatho. This traditional village is the ideal place to enjoy lunch if you wish or maybe you'll shop for holiday souvenirs.

At the end of your tour, you can join your fellow travellers on a transfer to the airport or choose to make your own arrangements.
