Day 2 Feldkirch & Vaduz
Overlooking the town of Feldkirch is the imposing Montfort's Schattenburg Castle, which is now a fascinating museum. This morning we'll enjoy a sightseeing tour of Feldkirch and visit the castle, which belonged to the counts of Montfort from 1190 to 1375. We then visit the family-run chocolatier Fenkart, that has been making exquisite hand decorated chocolates since 1948. Visit the workshop and learn all the secrets behind chocolate-making before indulging in a sample or two.
This afternoon, we head to Vaduz, the capital of Liechtenstein, which is famous for its wines. Enjoy a stroll through the town and perhaps pause to sample a glass or two of the local produce.
Day 3 Walser Valley
The Walser Valley in the Bregenzerwald region is relatively unspoilt and boasts spectacular scenery along with a welcoming spirit. The Bregenzerwald Cheese Route is a one of the area's best attractions. It is not a route as such, but a network of cheese producers scattered throughout the region. We will make a stop at a dairy in Schoppernau to learn all about the cheese-making process and, of course, we'll try some of the produce for ourselves. Later, we will call at Diedamskopf, the highest point in the region, where, if you would like to see more, you can opt to take a cable car ride to the top of the mountain.
After time to admire the spectacular views, we will make our way to one of the schnapps distilleries here to see how this alcoholic drink is made and sample the finished product. We'll then drive on to the village of Schwarzenberg and to the top of the Bödelepass. From this excellent vantage point, we will be able to take in wonderful views, so have your camera at the ready.
Day 4 The Glacier Express & St Moritz
The Swiss canton of Graubünden is an area teeming with traditional charm. From Tiefencastel, we board The Glacier Express and get unrivalled views of the Switzerland's stunning landscape on our way to the beautiful and chic Swiss resort of St Moritz, a regular haunt of the rich and famous. In the company of your Tour Manager and travelling companions, enjoy a stroll through its streets, which are lined with traditional architecture and high-end boutiques, before our return journey by coach. We'll drive via the Julier Pass and medieval Chur, capital of the canton of Graubünden and the oldest city in Switzerland.
Day 5 Lake Constance
Lake Constance is a huge freshwater lake located on the River Rhine and surrounded by affluent towns. From the German shore, it is framed by a dramatic backdrop of Swiss mountain peaks.
Our first stop on today's full-day tour is Ravensburg, which is close to the lake. The town is known for its towers and gates, not to mention a host of excellent shopping opportunities, so perhaps look out for some souvenirs of your holiday here. Kressbronn is our next stop, and here we will take a guided tour of a brewery and enjoy a tasting of local beer. We then continue on to Lindau, whose pretty harbour and pleasant Old Town are situated right on the shores of Lake Constance. Our day is rounded off with a leisurely boat trip to Bregenz in Austria, offering us beautiful scenic views.
Day 6 Neuschwanstein Castle
Today's tour will take us into neighbouring Germany through the beautiful Bregenz Forest region of Austria. You'll travel the German Alpenstraße, a road that passes impressive lakes and mountains, past the small towns of Oberstaufen and Immenstadt to the city of Füssen, where we'll visit Neuschwanstein Castle. There is probably not a single person who hasn't seen a picture of this iconic fairytale castle, and for you it will now become a reality. Explore this beautiful castle, once a private retreat of Ludwig II, which is overflowing with sumptuous fabrics and dazzling frescoes. The views across the Alpine foothills from the Conservatory are especially magical. After the tour of the castle and some free time in Füssen, you'll return to Feldkirch via the town of Kempten, home of the impressive St Lorenz Basilica.
This evening we'll gather as a group for a final dinner.
Day 7 Departure
At the end of your tour, you can pay to join a scheduled group airport transfer. Alternatively, we can book you a private transfer or you can make your own arrangements.
