Salaam Baalak Trust

Salaam Baalak Trust is an organisation that offers safe housing, counselling, education, and support to over 5,000 children in New Delhi. The organisation manage five safe homes across the city and help at risk youth learn new skills, and receive support for scholarships, job placements, and other resources.

The Salaam Baalak Trust operate a “City Walk” program, a youth-led walking tour providing a unique perspective on Delhi. On our India in Colour: The Deccan Odyssey holiday join a unique guided tour of Paharganj, in central Delhi, led by some of the children of Salaam Baalak. They will introduce you to sights that few tourists get the opportunity to see.

India is home to the highest concentration of street children in the world, with over 18 million kids living on the streets. These children face harsh living conditions, lacking proper shelter, care, and access to education and medical treatment. Planeterra partnered with Salaam Baalak Trust to connect their City Walk program with travellers and provide small scholarships to the youth. This additional source of income allows the organisation to empower more youth, offering them a chance to lead a life of dignity and acquire essential skills for their future.
