Itinerary

Day 1 ROME

Make your own way to Rome where you can meet us for the scheduled group transfers to your hotel. Have some time to settle in before beginning your Italian adventure.

Day 2 ROME

Soak up the capital’s iconic monuments on a sightseeing tour. You’ll see the legendary Colosseum and Roman Forum before taking a guided ‘skip-the-line’ entrance to the Vatican Museums and Michelangelo’s intricate Sistine Chapel. This afternoon, you can choose to wander the city’s cobbled streets solo or join our optional Secrets of Rome walking tour, which includes the Spanish Steps and Trevi Fountain.

Day 3 ROME - POMPEII - SORRENTO

Leave Rome and head south towards the Sorrento Peninsula. Take a tour of Pompeii, the city smothered by hot ash when Mount Vesuvius erupted in 79AD, before continuing to your Sorrento hotel for leisure time.

Day 4 SORRENTO - AT LEISURE

Stay in Sorrento or explore other pretty towns along the Amalfi Coast. Alternatively, join our excursion to idyllic Capri. We’ll journey to all four corners of the island, stopping off in Marina Grande, Anacapri and Capri town.

In the evening, we’ll reconvene for a foodie tour of the Garden of Vigliano, a local Sorrento farmhouse surrounded by fragrant citrus groves. The owners will give you an exclusive tour before we sit down to a delicious Italian feast.

Day 5 SORRENTO - ASSISI

Travel to Umbria, taking a break at the historic cemetery at Monte Cassino. The area is known for its ancient abbey that was partially destroyed in the infamous ‘Battle of Cassino’ during World War II. In the afternoon, explore Assisi, the birthplace of St Francis, on a tour. Highlights include the fascinating St Francis Cathedral, which is home to a collection of wonderful works of art.

Day 6 ASSISI - VENICE

We’ll continue north to Cantina Celli winery in the centre of the ancient Romagna winemaking region. Sample the vineyard’s fine wines and snack on locally made cheeses, breads and jams. Next up is heavenly Venice Lido and the Hotel Riviera, which has easy access to St Mark’s Square and sensational sandy beaches.

Day 7 VENICE - AT LEISURE

Explore the wonderful waterways of Venice at your own pace using your day ferry ticket. For some local insight, join our optional Secrets & Mysteries of Venice walking tour that begins at St Mark’s
Square and meanders past iconic landmarks and hidden treasures.

Day 8 VENICE - VERONA

Next, we’ll journey on to Verona, a city famed for its links to Shakespeare’s tragic Romeo and Juliet. A Local Guide will show us around the charming centre, pointing out the Arena, Piazza dei Signori and Piazza delle Erbe with its excellent market.

Day 9 VERONA - FLORENCE

Soak up Lake Garda and its picturesque mountain scenery on a peaceful, private cruise. We’ll pass pretty Punta San Vigilio, and make a stop at Gardone, where you can stroll along the lakeside promenade or take a walk up the hill to the pretty Old Town. Your cruise then continues to Sirmone and you’ll have plenty of time to enjoy lunch here if you wish. Afterwards, we’ll venture on through the Tuscan countryside to Florence and finish the day with a mouthwatering meal of regional treats.

Day 10 FLORENCE

Soak up beautiful Florence, the capital of Tuscany and birthplace of the Renaissance, on a morning walking tour, which takes in highlights including the terracotta-tiled Duomo and enchanting Ponte Vecchio. In the afternoon, you can explore Florence at your own place or choose our optional ‘skip-theline’ entrance to the Uffizi Gallery, which famously houses works by Michelangelo and Raphael.

Day 11 FLORENCE - AT LEISU

Enjoy a leisurely day in Florence or head to the Italian Riviera on our optional Cinque Terre tour. Made up of five charming villages, we’ll visit two by boat and train. There’s also the opportunity to indulge in a traditional Tuscan dinner at a Chianti farmhouse.

Day 12 FLORENCE - ROME

Return to Rome via spectacular Siena. The medieval city is renowned for its central square, Piazza del Campo, and historic Gothic palace, both of which you’ll explore on a guided tour. In Rome, check into your hotel in Fiumicino before a final farewell dinner.
