This was without doubt, the trip of a lifetime. One day we visited the region of Sintra and explored the stunning Palace of Sintra. The beautiful tiles and intricate artwork were such a treat for the eyes. Ana, our guide, was amazing she brought the history to life with fascinating stories, myths, and legends as we toured each room.
Hallgrímskirkja, the famous church on the hill in the middle Reykjavik has to be my biggest highlight of the city tour. The views out to sea were just phenomenal. It’s such a magnificent building – especially when you look up to it from the avenue. It’s said that the church was inspired by Svartifoss, the impressive waterfalls featuring basalt columns.
The Old Town was probably the biggest highlight for me, having read about it and seen it in travel documentaries. It’s UNESCO-listed, so you know you’re in for a treat. As well as the spectacular vistas looking out along the Dalmatian Coast, we had the ancient ramparts to discover and visited the Rector’s Palace and a Franciscan monastery which was once home to one of Europe’s oldest functioning pharmacies.
