Day 3 Rodney Bay - at Leisure

Discover more of the Rodney Bay area at your own pace today or spend your time relaxing in the Caribbean sun.

Alternatively, join an optional trip to St Lucia’s capital Castries, where at its local market you can try out your bartering skills. You’ll also see the process of silk-screening and watch a sculptor at work.

If you would like to do something more active, you can choose to join a different optional excursion altogether. You’ll embark on a hike of the Gros Piton, the highest of the island’s famous volcanic peaks, which is reached via a scenic journey. We’ll set off early and travel along the picturesque Morne Fortune hill, past banana plantations and through the villages of Anse La Raye and Canaries, where we’ll stop to taste local bread. We’ll then drive through Soufriere to the foot of the Gros Piton. The hike - with one Local Guide per four climbers - is moderate to begin with and becomes more strenuous as we go higher, so we recommend this to experienced hikers only.

Today we include a thrilling land and sea safari which takes us down the west coast to Soufriere. As we travel in an open-air Jeep we’ll enjoy fascinating detours through small villages along the outskirts of the rainforest. If you’re feeling thirsty along the way, don’t worry, the vehicle will be well stocked with soft drinks and beer. We’ll visit the Sulphur Springs, then head to a working coco plantation for lunch. Experience a selection of local dishes including a variety of rice dishes, salads and steamed vegetables, and try their traditional chicken dish and spicy creole fish. You will also learn about plantation life on the island and how the coco beans are traditionally dried and polished. After lunch, our return journey is made by boat, so top up your tan or relax in the shade and admire the gorgeous views of the Caribbean coast.
