Enjoy the best of both worlds on a tour which includes time in the mountains and at the coast. Beginning in the Catalan Pyrenees, you'll ascend to the Sanctuary of Núria by rack railway, then board the Little Yellow Train for a journey through stunning scenery. En route to the coast, you'll stop at Perelada Castle for a wine-tasting and your final train journey is aboard the Trenet de Cadaques. This fun little road train takes you to Cap de Creus National Park, where the Pyrenees meet the sea amid rugged cliffs and hidden coves. ​

Day 1 Barcelona

Make your own way to Barcelona where you can meet us for the scheduled group transfers to the Catalan Pyrenees. Our first hotel is located in the Spanish mountain village of Camprodon. Spend the rest of the day relaxing, before a welcome drink and dinner.​

Day 2 Besalú and La Garrotxa Volcanic Zone Natural Park

After breakfast we’re going to make our way to Besalú. It’s a lovely medieval town with some magnificent well-preserved architecture, including a delightful Romanesque bridge. After taking a stroll through the winding cobbled streets, there will be time to stop for lunch. 
Next we’ll head to the La Garrotxa Volcanic Zone Natural Park, a beautiful natural landscape, home to an array of wildlife, before visiting the town of Olot and setting off on a gentle walk to admire views of extinct volcanoes.​

Day 3 Rack railway to the sanctuary of Núria

This morning we’ll drive to the town of Ribes de Freser, where our journey to the sanctuary of Núria begins. This spiritual oasis is accessible only by train, so we’ll step aboard the rack railway for our ascent. Winding our way through this beautiful area, we’ll take in spectacular views. There will be time to admire the sanctuary, take a stroll and perhaps have a bite to eat, before we head back.​ Meals included: B,D

Day 4 The Little Yellow Train

Today we’re going to cross the border into France and take another fascinating trip by rail. First we’ll spend time in medieval Villefranche-de-Conflent, exploring its historic centre on foot. This afternoon we’ll step aboard the Little Yellow Train for a journey into the surrounding hills. Take in the views as the train passes by forests, streams, viaducts and bridges en route to Mont-Louis.​

Day 5 Castellfollit de la Roca

We’re heading to the coast today, on the way stopping to take a leisurely walk along a stretch of one of the few remaining Roman roads in the area. Then we’ll visit Castellfollit de la Roca, a medieval village perched on the edge of a cliff. En route to Roses we’ll call in at Perelada Castle for a wine-tasting in a glorious setting that forms part of the Emporda Wine Route. Finally, we’ll arrive at the pretty port of Roses on Spain’s Costa Brava, where our hotel is located on the seafront.​

Day 6 Roses

Today has been left free. Perhaps take a swim in the hotel’s swimming pool or maybe explore the citadel in Roses.​ Meals included: B,D

Day 7 Trenet de Cadaques

The Trenet de Cadaques is a fun little road train and we’re going to admire spectacular views as it takes us through Roses to Cap de Creus National Park. It’s the last day of your vacation, so tonight we’ll enjoy a farewell get-together, a fitting end to our time in this beautiful part of the world.​

Day 8 Barcelona - Deparure

Your tour comes to an end today. Scheduled group transfers are available to the airport, please see​​

​Please note: To join the Roman road walk on day 5 walking shoes are essential. This is not suitable for anyone with limited mobility.
